History of Massage

Massage started about 3,000 BC in India. It was used as a holistic approach to medicine. It has been used to restore balance, promote healing, improve circulation and help diminish pain and stiffness in affected area of the body.

Since then, various techniques have been developed and put in use around the world. In the 18th Century a Swedish physician Per Henrik Ling developed Swedish Massage, a standardized system of massage techniques.

Today, massage therapy is practiced worldwide. It is a respected form of alternative medicine. Many people utilize massage for relaxation, pain relief, rehabilitation and overall wellness.
